Food, Drinks, and Snacks (September)

While in Japan, I figured I should be trying snacks and foods that I normally wouldn't and/or can't get in America. Because there are so many snacks to try, I decided to do a monthly review on everything I tried. ^_^ Hope you guys enjoyed this! I apologize for the products I really like because they are probably going to be the shortest descriptions you'll find! XD

ガブリチュウ = チューイングキャンヂー 「ハクイ・アン・ブルー味」 されやかトロピカル
Gaburichuu = Chewing Candy. It's a tropical flavor: Blue and (I think) Hawaiian flavored.
Here's what I think it was: it tastes like a fruit roll up but made with banana and blue raspberry? And a little like the toothpaste your dentist uses. It leaves a pleasant aftertaste of bananas though, but it's very sugary tasting. I think it's yummy... but all my teeth are a sweet tooth~

Kokko
My roommate Yuki described it as a pancake item, but it looks like a cupcake. As for the taste, it was similar to a Hostess Twinky, which Chao had given to me for my birthday this year because I never had one before. It was like a spongecake with a vanilla tasting cream inside of it. That part was surprising... did not expect that whatsoever. If you are missing Twinkies while in Japan, be on the look out for this treat. :)

バナナDE小雪ちゃん バナナジャム(?)
Koyumi-chan Banana. Banana Jam.
Help me! They trapped me in this plastic bag!! I'm suffocating! Let me out!!
When I first opened the bag it was in, the scent of bananas was released into the air. Since I had a bit of a hard time opening the bag (those darn child-protection objects), my face was right over it. Though I like the smell of fresh bananas, so I am not really complaining. Anway, let's get unto the taste? :)
As expected, it tasted just like Peeps, but more banana-ish flavoring. It was a gummy marshmallow that joined the party in my tummy. My lips are a bit sticky now... but it was worth it. I feel a tad bit sad because I hate eating cute things. It's something about it. I want a cake that has a face or cute design, but as soon as I do go to eat it, I feel sad as though we were friends or bonded somehow? Anyone else get this feeling?
Thank you for saving me from that bag... wait, why are you smacking your lips like that? Why are you bringing me closer? Why is your mouth opening?! Ahhhh~!!! She bit me!!! Oh the humanity!! It hurts so badly!!!
You sick woman! All that's left of me is a head! I had a wife and children~!!! You cruel and heartless woman!!!

サワーペーパーキャンディサイダー
Sour Paper Candy: Cider-flavored
It wasn't really that sour, sadly. It was more of an awkward sweet. I don't think I can explain how it is an awkward sweet, it just is? The texture of the snack reminds me a lot of Sour airheads. It didn't really have a taste of anything.

BOURBON 食後の0kcal ピーチ味 (0 kcal after meal Peach-flavored)
So, this snack is a peach flavored jelly with a peach flavored juice within it. Japan loves their jelly like Bill Cosby loves his pudding. Like most things in Japan, it's very cute looking. This snack is perfect for after any of your meals according to the company.
Let me just say it now: I love peaches and peach products, which is why it has a bigger description/thoughts thingy. So I may or may not be biased about this product review. Upon my opening of the product, the sweet aroma of peaches filled the air. Imagine a cartoon in which an old grandma makes pie and leaves it out on the windowsill to cool down and the scent of the pie attracts attention from the other characters in the show. After they get a small wiff of the pie, they start floating over to it. This product was similar to that - minus the fact that I was right next to it and did not float. But you get what I'm throwing down? Anyway, the first bite. When I had my mini spoonful of the peach jelly, I could only taste a little bit of peach. The rest of it was consumed with the jelly-taste. Yes, jelly has its own taste. Bite after bite, I could mostly taste just the jelly, not the actual peach flavoring. As you probably saw in the above photos, there are pink hearts and white cubes of jelly as well. The pink hearts had no flavor what-so-ever. It was a disappointment~ :/ As for the white cubes, they were hard and had a strange taste. I think they were suppose to be peach cubes?

Pure Gummy Fresh Peach
So, I have here another peach product. And this one was totally satisfying. Usually when I type these things up, I base it off the first/second bite I had. Well, this one was so delicious I couldn't stop it eating it before even typing anything. Now, there is nothing special about this; it tastes like a peach gummy, smells like it, and even has the same old sugary coating like the other gummies. So why was this one so addicting...? I wish I could answer that. I really have nothing to say about the gummy. It was delicious and tasted like peaches <3

After a few minutes of starting typing
My face after eating the last one and wanting more~

メロンパン
Melon Bread
Oh. My. Gosh! This must be one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten in my life!!! I don't like melons whatsoever so it surprises me how much I love the melon flavored foods here! It tastes like plain, freshly baked white bread but with melon-flavoring on the inside. But be warned... the bread is very buttery on the outside. BUT IT'S SO DELICIOUS~!!! A definite must-try!
It's as big as my hand~!!

オレオチョコレートバーミニ
Oreo Chocolate Bar (MINI)
Credit
This mini oreo bar of deliciousness is a wonderful (yet small) taste of home. It is very chocolate-y but still has the signature Oreo flavor that we all know and love. When I bought this, it was for my dance club meeting, but I was curious as to what it tasted like so I had one, then two, then before I knew it I ate 5 all by myself in one sitting... so I had to buy something else for the meeting! XD Do we have anything like this in America?
It's as big as my finger! It really is finger food! XD

ファンタアップル
Fanta Apple
Let me start by saying I don't like soda at all. It's gross tasting. In America, I gave it up because I no longer enjoyed the taste. That was one of the best decision (health-wise) I had made in a long time. However, once I got to Japan, I tried Melon Soda because it sounded interesting. Well, now I enjoy having fruit-flavored soda. Anyone that knows me well enough knows I have an apple juice addiction and anything apple or peach flavored addiction. Thus, Apple Fanta is no exception to the rule. It is so delicious and apple-y! <3 It tastes similar to having a juicy red apple so of course I like it. I unfortunately cannot separate my bias-ness of apples or peaches from these reviews (unless it is like that Bourbon stuff above).

Size of the bottle versus size of an iTouch

サーティワンアイスクリーム
Baskin-Robbins 31!
So, I had my first taste of Baskin-Robbins today. Oh my gosh! It was so delicious!! I absolutely love what I got. I got the "Majo no Trick/魔女のトリック/Magic Trick" and "Popping Shower/ポッピングシャワー" double scoop. It was so delicious! The combination of grape and apple from the "Majo no Trick" and the Pop Rocks found in the "Popping Shower" was such a wonderful combination. It was like a really great contrast between the fruitiness of the "Majo no Trick" and the fizziness of the "Popping Shower." I can't wait to eat more of it!! :9
When you eat the two flavors together, it creates a popping, magical surprise ♥

バナナパン
Banana Bread!
I have an addiction bread and thanks to Japan, it got worse. Now, it's flavored bread that I have an addiction to! (As you can probably tell from the melon bread from above. Just like the melon bread, this banana bread is buttery and delicious. Now, I like bananas back from, just not in bread form - like American banana bread. But I love this one. It actually tastes like you are eating a banana that just so happens to be out of bread. I highly recommend anyone going to Japan to eat the flavored breads~!!! They are so good!!
メロンパン
Melon Bread (again)
Okay, so why am I talking about Melon bread again? It's just that good! And because this is a different brand of bread. (Same as the banana). In my opinion, the first melon bread I talked about was more delicious than this one, but both are really good. This too tastes like the flavor it is suppose to be. And the fact that the bread itself is green colored is pretty cute. Don't worry, I checked the expiration date. It's all good!
Proof that it didn't expire yet (2012/11/02)

Tropicana Ju!cy Splash
It was a surprising taste. It was as though Sprite soda was mixed with Apple, Cherry, and Lemon flavoring... oh, that's because it was. I'm not a fan of cherry flavored things, but this was yummy. It was very fizzy though. If you don't like fizzy drinks, do not buy this one.
I drank most of the bottle before posting about it, hence the lack of photos. XD

イチゴクリームバッセ
Strawberry Cream Basse(?)
To get out this treat, it took about 5 minutes to open. I had to use a lot of strength to tear that sucker out of there. I sent it flying into the air and landing on my lap. I have that problem with the children seal with things. I admit it; I cannot open things for the life of me. It's plain difficult... anyway, back to the treat. When I first opened the package, it smelt similar to Hostess' Twinkies snack thing. Upon the first bite, it tasted nothing like Twinkies does. It was like a shortcake with a strawberry frosting layer. But it didn't taste as good as that would be. As you could tell, it had a white layer of whiteness on the top and bottom. That would be confectionery sugar, I think. It tasted alright. But it wasn't as special tasting as I thought it would be.
The cute lil bag it came in ^^
I told you I can't open things properly~

シャーバットペログレープ
Grape Something?
My first thought of this snack would be that it would be actually like the snack I loved when I was a child. That candy being Fun Dip. And I was basically right about it. However, maybe it's because I am a little bias when it comes to candy, I think the American Fun Dip is a bit better than this. Don't get me wrong, this is okay, but it's no Fun Dip.

Apple Bread
りんごパン
Yes, again with the bread... what can I say, I am addict to flavored bread as well as regular bread. I was raised on bread, but not in the "please, sir, can I have some more?" But in the sense of pb&j, cucumber sandwiches, rolls, etc. I love bread! Well, like all the other breads I had reviewed in the month of September, it really does taste like what it says it is: in this case, apples. Although I love the taste of apples than mostly anything in the world, this bread does not surpass the superior melon bread (first one). It is still every delish. I had this for breakfast yesterday and it was super pleasing to my taste buds. I miss the actual fruit though so this is a good way to have that taste. (The school does provide a fruit slice here and there but it's not as satisfying as having a whole fruit, but fruit here is expensive so it's understandable. If someone loves me enough and if it's legal/won't be rotted by the time it gets here, can someone send me fruits? Apples, peaches, berries are preferred, but any would be good. Except cantaloupe, that stuff is nasty.

ジャンボシュークリーム
Jumbo Cream Puff (and I don't mean Mizenko's kitten)
I had cream puffs here and there before and I am not so much of a fan of it. But I received it from my Japanese Traditional Dance sensei and a little girl gave it to me, so I would feel bad wasting it. So I ate it. I got squished in my bag though, so a lot of the cream came out. XD It tasted like all the other cream puffs that I had eaten in the past. There was nothing special about this one except for what I mentioned above. The breading was buttery like how I like though so that's a plus.

Apple Jelly
When I bought this apple jelly, I thought it was a creme covered apple flavored candy thing based on what it looked like on the package. I did not expect it to be apple flavored jelly. But, as most of the flavored products here, it was very delicious. As soon as you open the jelly packet, the smell of apples was released into the air, similar to the Peach jell-o I bought, but this was better tasting. I love this jelly and will probably try to bring some back with me when I return for America. :p

Chocolate Crackers
Honestly, I couldn't really taste anything. They were like regular crackers with a small hint of chocolate mixed in. Sorry I couldn't provide my details about this.

Purple thing
So, I did not know what to expect with this thing? I thought it was a liquid or a drink sweeter type deal. Both are wrong. It's actually jelly in a tube. Japan loves their jelly almost as much as they I love their flavored breads. When I first opened the container, I was surprised that it kept its shape and wasn't spilling when trying to move it around to take pictures of it. As you probably guessed, it was grape flavored. It was surprisingly good.

Well, I hope you enjoyed last month's edition of the snacks and drinks that I have tried during the month of September.
